Stash-

Living in the country makes a good stash critical when beginning a new project. We have a good quilt shop locally, but sometimes they don’t have the perfect fabric for a current project. That’s where a good stash comes in. My stash has grown over many years, as my quilting skills and interests have evolved. The fabrics of my stash are organized by color, era (i.e. civil war, 1930’s), ethnicity (African, Asian, Australian), or fabric content (cotton, silk, or wool).

Traveling is a wonderful way to build a stash. Every US town has quilt shops with a fabric you can’t live without. International travel provides opportunity to add ethnic fabrics. Garments from other countries can be recycled into quilts.

Guatemalan huipils (blouses) and cortes (skirts) provide interesting weaves and textures.

Kimono silks are beautiful in design and color. Sometimes it is difficult to dissect such wonderful kimonos even if they are worn or soiled.
